At just 36 years of age, Alvaro Martínez is one of the youngest Team Managers in the FIA Formula Regional European Championship. Having joined PREMA Racing ahead of the 2026 season, the Spaniard arrived with a wealth of experience gained across different areas of motorsport, from team management to championship promotion.
Despite leading one of the most successful teams in junior single-seater racing, Martínez approaches his role with humility, seeing himself not as the central figure but as part of a much larger collective effort. Away from the circuit, the Madrid native is a devoted family man whose free time is largely dedicated to his wife, young son and family life, although he still enjoys every opportunity to get on a motorbike whenever his schedule allows.
Ahead of PREMA’s home weekend at Monza, we sat down with Martínez to discuss his journey through motorsport, his leadership philosophy and life away from the paddock.
Alvaro, how would you assess PREMA Racing’s season so far?
Overall, I would say the season has been going well. It’s true that we’ve had a bit of bad luck at certain events, but I believe we have a very strong team and three excellent drivers. We’re working hard and remain confident that the results we’re aiming for will come. Our target is to win.
Speaking of winning, Kean Nakamura-Berta has made a very strong step up with the team. How impressed have you been by the way he has adapted to the championship?
He’s doing a fantastic job. What stands out the most is his maturity, which is truly impressive. Both as a person and as a driver, he has exceeded our expectations, even though those expectations were already very high. We’re extremely happy with him and with the level of performance he has shown so far.
Moving on to Salim Hanna, he has experienced a fair amount of misfortune this season, but he has also demonstrated the pace to fight for podiums and victories.
Salim has already shown that he is a very talented driver. It’s true that he has been unlucky at certain events, but what has impressed us most is the way he has responded to those setbacks. He has displayed a very strong mindset, overcoming difficult situations and continuing to improve throughout each weekend. He is younger than Kean and naturally still developing. What we expect from him is continued growth, and he has already demonstrated that he has everything required to be at the front. We are extremely happy with his progress and confident about what he can achieve in the future.
The same could be said for Tomass Stolcermanis. He has shown excellent pace. Do you expect him to continue developing throughout the season and become one of the drivers to watch?
Absolutely. Thomas was with us a couple of years ago in Formula 4 and did a very good job. This year he joined the team at the last minute, something we were very pleased about. However, it’s important to remember that he did not race during the 2025 season, so he first needs time to readapt to the championship and to regular racing. That process naturally takes time. Our role is to provide him with all the support he needs and help him regain full confidence and rhythm. Even so, he has already shown that he can be very competitive. We’re confident that, with continued support, he can return to the level where we believe he belongs.
