New to the FIA Formula Regional European Championship grid this season, Rodin Motorsport arrives in the series with strong ambitions and an already well-established reputation across several categories on the road to Formula 1. The British-based squad has long been regarded as one of the benchmark teams in junior single-seater racing and, in 2026, has taken on a new challenge by joining the FIA Formula Regional European Championship paddock.
For its debut campaign, Rodin Motorsport has lined up three highly rated drivers: Australian talent Alex Ninovic and Britain’s Reza Seewooruthun, both of whom secured a best finish of second place in the opening round at the Red Bull Ring, alongside Brazilian driver Gabriel Gomez.
During the Austrian weekend, we spoke with Rodin Motorsport’s Team Manager, Ben Lathrope.
Great to have you in the FIA Formula Regional European Championship. First of all, for a team like Rodin Motorsport, which has competed in so many different categories, what does it mean to now race in an FIA championship?
It’s a great championship for us to enter. We had already considered joining in the past, but with the introduction of the new car and engine, it felt like the right moment for us to start.
Let’s also talk about your drivers. You’ve brought three new faces into the championship, but all of them arrive with strong credentials.
Yes, with Alex and Reza coming from GB3, they already had a solid baseline to build on. Then Gaby arrives with valuable F4 experience, which is very good for a rookie. Hopefully the pace will continue to improve as the season progresses.
After testing, were you confident heading into the season that strong results were possible?
Yes, I think testing went well and the first race weekend was pretty strong too, so I’m quite happy.
One of the new features this season is Race Mode. Can you explain a little bit about how it works for the drivers and for the team?
Yeah, Race Mode is actually really cool. It definitely improves the racing and helps with overtaking. It has taken a bit of time to understand the best way to use it and how to manage it properly, especially making sure you still have enough available at the end of the race. But overall, it’s definitely been a positive step forward.
How challenging is it to manage from the pit wall during a race? Does it add another layer of complexity?
Yes, it can be a little tricky because the drivers need to communicate how many seconds they still have available in certain situations. But for the most part, it’s been really good.
From a fan’s perspective, do you think it adds something extra to the racing?
For sure. The racing has been really exciting.
